Changing the Home City on Your Profile

John wrote in to ask the SeeClickFix Team:

Hello,
I would like to change the city I am associated with in my profile. How might I go about this?
Thanks,
John

Thank you John for asking such a good question. This isn't the first time someone has asked us how to do this; luckily, it's a simple process and we're happy to have this chance to explain it clearly.

Start by logging in to SeeClickFix. It doesn't matter whether you use your SeeClickFix Profile or Facebook Connect. It will bring you to a page like this:

Underneath the city's name should now be six tabs. The usual five, plus the "My Profile" tab all the way on the right. The city you see first will most likely be your home city or, if you were looking at another city the last time you visited the site, the last city you searched for. Search for the name of the city you'd like to have as the new Home City associated with your profile. In this case, Honest Abe is going to change his Home City from Springfield, IL to Washington D.C.

He starts by finding the city that's going to be his new home. The first thing to do is open up the search bar. Underneath the SeeClickFix logo in the upper left corner is the name of the city you're looking at (in this case, Springfield); right under that is the link to "change city." Click it. A search bar like this will open up:

In this case, Abe types in "Washington D.C." and hits the Search for Location button. When you're looking for a city, remember that it helps if you put in the city and the state (as in, say, New Haven, CT). It also helps to make sure you've spelled everything correctly.

This is the page where Abe lands:

As you can see, it's a good deal busier than the small farm where Abe was born in LaRue County, Kentucky. But, since he's ready to make D.C. his new home, the next thing he does is click the "My Profile" tab. This is what it looks like for him:

And, as you can see, the option to set a new Home City is right there in the middle of the page. Anytime you access the "My Profile" tab from a city that's not already set as your Home, you'll have the option to change it. When Abe clicks the "set Washington as your home" link, a yellow dialogue box will pop up letting him know that his Home was changed successfully.
